Funeral Art / Ashes in Glass

Order the items that interest you directly on the website.

Then, as for sending the ashes (the whole procedure is indicated online) you will have to send us approximately 1 tablespoon of ashes per piece of glass to be made. You can send the ashes to us by regular or Xpress mail, in a container or airtight bag, in an envelope, to our postal address (2-638, route 199, Havre-aux-Maisons, G4T 5A8). It's very simple and secure and we have been operating this way for several years, without any problems. We will be able to inform you when the ashes have arrived at the workshop.

As soon as the ashes arrive to us, we undertake to complete the order within 4 working days, using the ashes with the greatest respect. We will then send your piece of glass to your home by post, delicately packaged, as well as the ashes that have not been used. You will receive the tracking number by email.

The ashes are integrated during the manufacturing of the glass piece. The ashes are trapped between two layers of molten glass, where they are sealed forever. Thus the ashes are an integral part of the glass piece and add a “delicate white cloud” effect. Our creations with ashes are therefore not containers, but small, unique, tailor-made works.

Maintenance / Hygiene / Warranty

Wash the glass with lukewarm water and mild soap (non-abrasive). Clean sterling silver with a product designed for this purpose.

Dishwasher and microwave are not recommended. You can take your chances if you want, but we are not responsible if any breakage occurs. Glass is sensitive to very large variations in heat that occur quickly (e.g. a bowl taken out of the fridge and dipped in boiling dishwater).

Our lamps preferably require incandescent or LED bulbs. The number of watts used is at your discretion.

Our hygienic, reusable, durable and hypoallergenic products. In our jewelry, for assembly or certain chains, we mainly use metals known to have no impact on the can (sterling silver or stainless steel). The few parts that are not are clearly indicated in each product sheet.

For normal use: a one-month warranty applies from the date of purchase. No warranty on parts purchased at a discount.

Blown Glass / The Medusa

The glass used at La Méduse is not made from the sand of the Islands. However, it is made mainly from silica (which is present in large quantities in the sand of the Magdalen Islands). Our glass comes from the USA, where it is manufactured industrially. It has a recipe that was designed for glassblowers specifically. It therefore has all the qualities necessary for artisanal manufacturing.

Yes, glass can be recycled and can be reused in another way when a piece is missed. Our raw materials come from far away and this is not negligible from an environmental point of view. However, in a desire for sustainable development and minimizing our environmental impact, instead of throwing away our failed pieces of glass, we recycle them to make new creations. This allows us to reduce our waste by around 50%. Furthermore, all this recycled material offers us the chance to create new works and push our search for glass work elsewhere. Thus, thanks to this recovery, we can offer visitors and Madelinots, among others, glass panels to integrate into the architecture and original and unique decorative pieces.

When you watch the making of one of our glass jellyfish in the workshop, everything happens quickly and is executed in a sequence of well-practiced steps. So, everything seems simple and it's often even surprising to see that such a mysterious creation can be created in less than 30 minutes. However, behind these 30 minutes lie 5 years of trial and error which led to nothing conclusive before leading to the correct technique for creating the jellyfish. Then there are another 3-5 years of practice for the new glassmaker who learns how to make this new piece, through a long road strewn with discouragement and success! That’s what craftsmanship is all about. All the learning, all the experience of repeated work of the hands is invisible to the eye, but it is hidden behind the creation put forward in the gallery.

Making new creations isn't as simple as snapping your fingers. Normally, we prefer that people choose from existing collections, because these are pieces that we master well. For minor modifications, this is generally possible, but at an additional cost.

For completely new requests, you can talk to us by email (lameduseim@gmail.com) and we will give you an update on whether it is in our areas of expertise, if we have the time and if we are interested. to move forward or not. We will also inform you of the procedure for creating a new work and the current rate for tests and prototypes.
